Open Call: Fall 2026 Guest Curator

Description
Type Electives is looking for a Guest Curator to shape our Fall 2026 Lecture Series. This is a one-semester paid creative opportunity for someone with a strong point of view to bring new voices, ideas, energy, and help shape the conversations happening in our community.
The series includes five lectures in total. You will give the first lecture and curate the remaining four. All talks take place on Fridays from 1 to 2 PM EST starting in September. You can explore our past Type Electives lecture series in our events page.
You will also lead a short weekend workshop during the fall term, and the TE team will support you with mentorship, planning, and guidance every step of the way.
What you’ll do
This opportunity is ideal for someone who is organized, communicative, and excited about curatorial leadership in type and design. You’re a strong communicator who can create both visual and written content that supports our school's mission and community.
Define the theme for the Fall Lecture Series
Give the opening lecture, which is Lecture 1 of 5
Curate four additional sessions held every other Friday from 1 to 2 PM EST starting in September
Invite and coordinate speakers for the fall lecture series
Lead a two-hour online weekend workshop (free for participants) with mentorship from TE
Collaborate with TE to shape the vision and experience of the series
Your compensation
$600 USD stipend which covers your curatorial and organizing work, your speaker fee for the first lecture of the series, and your teaching fee for the two-1hour online weekend workshop

Requirements
Able to communicate with the TE staff during East Coast U.S. business hours (specific days/hours are flexible)
Fluent in written and spoken English
You meet one of the following:
You are a U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the U.S. as an independent contractor
You are not a U.S. Citizen but are aware of potential U.S. tax responsibilities as an independent contractor receiving income from the U.S.
Extras
Experience in design education and/or community organizing. Examples include: teacher or teaching assistant, community or event organizer, etc.
Fluent in one or more languages besides English
