Feeling lost or stuck? Finished a font and not sure what comes next? Wondering what it’s like to run a foundry—or how to increase visibility? It’s your lucky day! I’m opening a group edition of Type Therapy to share perspectives, unpack dilemmas, and connect the community through candid conversations. We can dive into storytelling, publishing strategies, collaboration, and optimistically distill insecurities into insights. There is no single way to build a career in type, but the industry gets stronger when we stop figuring things out alone. Let’s exchange.
Audience and Format
This session is intended for designers beginning to imagine, or actively navigating, a professional life in type. Applicants will submit one question, and 15 participants will be selected based on the diversity of themes and experiences (not portfolio). Type Therapy is a two-hour online moderated discussion shaped by the people and conundrums in the room, so outcomes will vary accordingly.
Goals
- Strengthen critical thinking by examining complex issues from multiple angles.
- Encourage collaborative solutions within a practice often seen as solitary.
- Create space for professional uncertainty and subjects rarely addressed in formal type education.
Material Requirements
- A computer with reliable Internet connection
- A free Zoom Account
- A free Slack account (an invitation to a class group will be sent to each participant)
